Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 Stress Test is Live, Includes Splitscreen Co-op on Xbox Series S https://gamingbolt.com/baldurs-gate-3-patch-8-stress-test-is-live-includes-splitscreen-co-op-on-xbox-series-s Tue, 28 Jan 2025 18:14:32 +0000 https://gamingbolt.com/?p=610151 After prematurely going live on PS5 yesterday, Larian Studios’ stress test for Baldur’s Gate 3 is out now for the console alongside Xbox Series X/S and PC. You should have received an email on PS5 and PC after pre-registering while Xbox Insider Programme members can access it on Xbox.

The stress test focuses on Patch 8, adding long-awaited features like cross-platform play and Photo Mode. Check out the video below on setting up cross-play and creating a lobby. It’s worth noting that console players joining a PC lobby with mods should have less than 100 installed and only those supported on their platforms. Failure to do so means not joining the PC player’s lobby.

Another interesting new addition is the splitscreen co-op on Xbox Series S, a feature missing at launch due to performance constraints with the console. Check out the patch notes below for more details.

Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 doesn’t have a release date for all players, but it’s out later this year. In addition to all the above features, it adds 12 new subclasses with unique traits.

Patch 8 Highlights

While some of you will get to try out Patch 8 for yourself, starting today, here’s just some of what you can expect with Patch 8 once it is ready for release!

Highlights

  • Photo mode
  • 12 new subclasses
  • Cross-play
  • Xbox Series S split screen

Gameplay

  • When you succeed a Perception check, the spotted item will now ping on the minimap and be listed in the combat log.
  • Fixed an issue where the special abilities of some of your allies weren’t properly provided at the end of the dialogue with them at High Hall.
  • Scrolls and potions inside unlocked containers in your party inventory can now be used when rolling in dialogues.
  • Neutral and friendly NPCs will no longer become hostile when, outside of combat, they walk into surfaces created during combat that trigger passives (like electrified surfaces triggering Thunderbolt Strike). Take it easy, lads.
  • Fixed Freecast being reset when any condition is applied.
  • Fixed characters getting stuck when pathfinding via a ladder that’s already in use by another companion.
  • Fixed a bug with the moving platform in the Gauntlet of Shar that would sometimes leave you behind, causing you to plummet to your death.

Combat

  • Fixed an issue causing neutral NPCs to trigger combat for seemingly no reason.
  • Cerys will stop getting involved in combats with Minthara from across the region. An eager beaver no longer.

Modding

  • Fixed an issue causing you to get stuck at a 0% loading screen when attempting to join a multiplayer session that uses mods.
  • The Mod Verification window will now trigger regardless of where the request to connect to a multiplayer game is coming from.
  • Replaced the third-party mod warning with clearer messaging.

Performance and Options

  • Fixed the ruleset selector not appearing on the ‘Alter Custom Mode’ screen when accessing the ruleset settings via the multiplayer lobby.
  • Improved server performance in the Adamantine Forge.

Scripting and Flow

  • Fixed an issue where you could tell Astarion that Gandrel has been looking for him even if Gandrel refused to tell you the name of his prey.
  • Fixed a savegame issue where you wouldn’t get the appropriate amount of Umbral Gems for the Gauntlet of Shar.
  • Reminded Minthara that ‘knocked out’ does not mean ‘dead’, so she’ll more reliably appear in Moonrise Towers.
  • You can no longer teleport out of Moonrise while controlling Minthara unless you tell her to stay put.
  • Minthara is now willing to talk to you after you tell her to wait in the torture chamber.
  • Minthara no longer gets stuck babysitting Thaniel in Act II.
  • Fixed an issue where you could talk about Art Cullagh as though he’s alive even if he isn’t.

UI

  • Discovered and available (non-hostile, alive, etc.) traders are now shown on the world map regardless of how far away you are from them.

Cinematics

  • Shadowheart has agreed to stop repeatedly changing her hair colour during certain intimate moments.
  • Tidied up and improved some cinematic animations for characters of different heights if you kiss during the evil ending.

Writing

  • Fixed a duplicated dialogue option and the wrong version of another dialogue option appearing in Minthara’s main party dialogue.

Patch 8 will bring a multitude of fixes for various crashes and blockers, combat bugs, scripting and flow issues, and more. The full patch notes will be shared once Patch 8 goes live!

Baldur’s Gate 3 Photo Mode Detailed, Coming in 2025 https://gamingbolt.com/baldurs-gate-3-photo-mode-detailed-coming-in-2025 Wed, 27 Nov 2024 22:23:37 +0000 https://gamingbolt.com/?p=605220 Even in the absence of any paid expansions, Larian Studios’ post-launch support for Baldur’s Gate 3 has been spectacular, and that’s set to continue as we head into 2025. Though the developer is now focused on its next major projects, it’s also continuing to work on major features that will be added to Baldur’s Gate 3 for free.

Patch 8 is set to arrive at some point next year, and as previously confirmed, in addition to cross-play and a dozen new subclasses, it will also add a long-requested feature in the form of a Photo Mode. As detailed in a Steam post, Baldur’s Gate 3’s Photo Mode is going to be a robust one, with a number of tools on offer. You will, of course, have free camera control, while you will also be able to place any and all characters in your party (including summons and those in a Wild Shape) in the shot and adjust their positioning as you see fit.

Various lens settings will also be included, such as field of view, depth of field, focus, and exposure, while several scene settings will be offered as well. These will include being able to toggle party members, enemies, NPCs, and the player character, not to mention different poses and facial expressions. Other options will include post-processing effects such as highlights, brightness, vignettes, saturation, and contrast, as well as various frames and up to 300 stickers, of which up to 30 can be applied in a single photo.

A specific release date for Patch 8 is currently unknown, but Larian says stress testing will begin in January, so hopefully it won’t be too long before the studio is ready to share more concrete details. Stay tuned for more updates either way.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It has reportedly sold over 15 million units.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is Adding Cross-Play, 12 New Subclasses in 2025 https://gamingbolt.com/baldurs-gate-3-is-adding-cross-play-12-new-subclasses-in-2025 Wed, 27 Nov 2024 18:41:04 +0000 https://gamingbolt.com/?p=605179 Larian Studios has confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 will receive new features, including cross-play and Photo Mode. However, a new Steam Community post reveals they’ll arrive with Patch 8 in 2025. That’s not all, as 12 new subclasses are also inbound.

Cross-play will encompass all platforms, including Mac, and even include cross-progression. It will occur with the Larian Network and allows for inviting players to lobbies directly. As for the new subclasses, they’ll add to each of the current classes in the game and offer new abilities, summons, cantrips, and more.

The Bard is getting the College of Glamor for healing allies and charming enemies, who can be given orders. Barbarian embarks on Path of the Giants, using Giant’s Rage to increase their size and strength, more throwing attack damage and carry capacity. Clerics venture into the Death Domain and explode corpses to deal damage.

Druid’s Circle of Stars allows for inhabiting new Starry Forms, namely Archer, Chalic, and Dragon, each with unique playstyles. Paladin’s Oath of the Crown can interrupt enemies while healing allies and tanking using Divine Allegiance. The Fighter can become an Arcane Archer and either deal Psychic damage or banish enemies for a turn. The Monk gets the Drunken Master, recovering Ki and getting enemies drunk, which increases their chance to take damage and other benefits.

There’s also the Ranger (Swarmkeeper), Rogue (Swashbuckler), Sorcerer (Shadow Magic), Warlock (Hexblade), and Wizard (Bladesinging). When you consider Multi-Classing, the number of options becomes even more insane.

Stay tuned for more details in the coming months. Baldur’s Gate 3 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, and it’s reportedly sold over 15 million copies to date.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Has Reportedly Sold Over 15 Million Units https://gamingbolt.com/baldurs-gate-3-has-reportedly-sold-over-15-million-units Mon, 25 Nov 2024 23:28:59 +0000 https://gamingbolt.com/?p=605008 Baldur’s Gate 3 was instantly recognized by the industry at large as one of the greatest games ever made as soon as it was out, and in the time since then, its legend has only grown. Unsurprisingly, the acclaimed RPG has also continued to sell at an impressive pace, and seems to have crossed another major sales milestone.

As per a report published by the Irish IndependentBaldur’s Gate 3 has sold over 15 million units worldwide across all platforms. In February earlier this year, Larian Studios’ director of publishing Michael Douse stated that the had sold “way over” 10 million units at the time, so clearly, it has maintained impressive momentum with its sales.

The report also states that account filings by Larian Studios show revenues of €427 million for the Baldur’s Gate 3 developer in 2023 (up from €22.7 million in 2022). That also entails €249 million in profits prior to tax. As a result of its hefty profits, the company also paid out €28 million in dividends.

Larian is currently working on yet more features for Baldur’s Gate 3 that will be added with future free updates, though you shouldn’t expect any further Baldur’s Gate content from the studio beyond that in the form of expansions or a sequel. Instead, Larian has two new projects in development, both of which are based on its own IP.

Larian Studios has confirmed that its next game isn’t going to be Divinity: Original Sin 3– though it will eventually happen at some point, apparently, so fans of the series need not worry. Either way, it’s going to be a while before the developer is ready to talk about its next project, so stay tuned for more updates.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Introduces 100-Mod Limit on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S https://gamingbolt.com/baldurs-gate-3-introduces-100-mod-limit-on-ps5-and-xbox-series-x-s Mon, 25 Nov 2024 15:16:48 +0000 https://gamingbolt.com/?p=604962 It’s no secret that mods have been massively popular with Baldur’s Gate 3’s player base ever since they became available in the acclaimed RPG, which surpassed 50 million mod downloads last month, though developer Larian Studios is introducing some changes to how they function on consoles.

Specifically, the developer says it has pushed out a hotfix that places a limit on the number of mod files players can have equipped on consoles. Due to the high number of crashes and technical issues players on consoles report when too many mods are installed, Baldur’s Gate 3 has now placed a limit of having 100 mods active at a time.

“Unlike PC, consoles can only juggle so many files at once,” Larian explains. “The more mods you have installed, the quicker this file limit is reached. Now that some of you have been trying to play with more than 100 mods, you’ve been letting us know that you’re experiencing slow loading times or even game crashes.

“While we recommend only installing the mods you know you’ll definitely continue playing with, to maximise stability, we’re introducing a 100-mod limit for console platforms.”

As for those who have already reached 100 mods, Larian Studios says players on consoles won’t be able to load such save files, though the developer will soon be rolling out another update that makes those disabled saves accessible again. Until then, however, you can enable cross saves and try to bring your active mod count down to under 100 on PC. Keep in mind, however, that when playing with cross saves enabled, you’ll have to play with the limit in place even on PC.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is Now PS5 Pro Enhanced https://gamingbolt.com/baldurs-gate-3-is-now-ps5-pro-enhanced Thu, 07 Nov 2024 19:18:07 +0000 https://gamingbolt.com/?p=603523 The PS5 Pro is out today, and the list of titles that feature enhancements on the console is already a long one. As previously confirmedBaldur’s Gate 3 is one of several games that features targeted PS5 Pro enhancements, and in an update, developer Larian Studios has revealed exactly what to expect.

On PS5 Pro, the acclaimed RPG’s graphics modes and their performance and resolution targets have been tweaked. Specifically, in Quality mode, the game runs at a native 4K and 30 FPS on the PS5 Pro, while in Performance mode, it runs at a native 1440p resolution that’s upscaled to 4K using PSSR, at 60 FPS.

Meanwhile, when playing splitscreen multiplayer on PS5 Pro, Quality mode and Performance mode will run at 30 FPS and 60 FPS respectively. Additionally, Larian has also used this update to push a fix for an issue that would prevent some players from “downloading or subscribing to mods when loading into another player’s multiplayer game with mods enabled”.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Surpasses 50 Million Mod Downloads https://gamingbolt.com/baldurs-gate-3-surpasses-50-million-mod-downloads Wed, 30 Oct 2024 20:25:03 +0000 https://gamingbolt.com/?p=602883 Mod support for Baldur’s Gate 3 officially went live for PC players in September, and it became promptly clear that demand for the same had been high, with the community have collectively downloaded over a million mods within less than a day, and 22 million within a month. Now, another major milestone has been crossed.

Taking to Twitter, developer Larian Studios announced that Baldur’s Gate 3’s player base has now downloaded over 50 million mods since Patch 7 went live for the acclaimed RPG close to two months ago. Interestingly enough, as shared by the developer, about 10,000 of the downloads were for the purposes of renaming Withers to “Bone Daddy”, which is… something.

Larian Studios is currently working on yet more post-launch features for Baldur’s Gate 3, including cross-platform multiplayer support and a photo mode, among other things. Read more on that through here.
