Atlus recently pulled back the curtain on Persona 5 Royalthe expanded re-release of the masterful 2017 RPG, launching exclusively for the PS4 next year. We got to learn a great deal about it at the recent Persona concert, and now, some new information has to light about its development.

Famitsu has confirmed thanks to an interview with the developers that Daiki Itoh is going to be at the helm as the director of the game. In case you don’t know why that’s relevant, Itoh was also the director of Persona 4 Golden, the expanded re-release of Persona 4. Until the release of Persona 5 in 2017, Persona 4 Golden was widely considered to be the best entry in the series- and many stand by that notion even now. Meanwhile, series mainstays Shigenori Soejima and Kazuhisa Wada will be returning as well, as character designer and producer respectively.

Persona 5 Royal is out in Japan on October 31st for the PS4, while a western release has been confirmed for 2020, though an exact launch date hasn’t been announced. There’s more Persona 5 content beyond that as well- musou action-RPG Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers was also recently announced in collaboration with Koei-Tecmo and Omega Force for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
