"Our team is currently working on the announcement and release later this winter to ensure we can fully meet everyone's expectations," Bandai Namco says.

Tekken 8 - Heihachi

With Lidia joining its roster in July and iconic villain Heihachi Mishima arriving in October, Tekken 8 had a busy few months, but it looks like Bandai Namco isn’t quite ready to talk about what’s next just yet. With the Global Finals for the Tekken World Tour 2024 tournament set from December 5 to 8, many had assumed that that’s where we would learn about the fighting game’s next DLC character, though it turns out that’s not what Bandai Namco has planned.

Taking to Twitter, the game’s development team has revealed that it will be sharing details on upcoming updates for Tekken 8 at the aforementioned finals, it won’t be revealing the game’s next DLC character. Instead, the next fighter’s announcement and release are planned for later in the winter.

“With the excitement growing for the upcoming Tekken World Tour 2024 Global Finals, the Tekken team would like to share more details regarding the major events coming up this week,” the dev team’s message reads. “New information about future updates for Tekken 8 will be announced; however, regarding the next playable character, no additional information will be revealed during the events. Our team is currently working on the announcement and release later this winter to ensure we can fully meet everyone’s expectations.”

Bandai Namco hasn’t specified when in winter we can expect to hear more about (or get our hands on) the next DLC character for Tekken 8, though The Game Awards, set for December 12, might serve as the stage for the announcement- unless Bandai Namco has something else planned, of course. Either way, it sounds like it won’t be terribly long before we find out, so stay tuned.

Tekken 8 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
